UK Regions - Power Where It Belongs

Who Controls What, From Where, and Why?

The present system now gives devolved government to three of the four countries which make up the United Kingdom. But few people in England - other than the more extreme elements - realise that there is no English Government. All MPs at Westminster, regardless of which part of the UK their constituency is in, are able to vote on all matters (even those which affect England alone), while English MPs - quite rightly - have no say in matters devolved to the other parliaments, such as Health, Education, or Transport.

Under ProFirst, the voting power of each UK country's MPs will exactly match the votes polled at the election in that country. So unlike the present situation, each country's total voting power at Westminster when voting on UK matters will be exactly representative.

Why do we need four separately-elected groups of MPs?

Surely it would make economic, statutory and democratic sense if, say, Scottish MPs were elected to the Scottish Parliament where they dealt with all devolved matters and also voted in divisions on UK-wide matters at Westminster. So MSPs themselves would also be Westminster MPs.

The same would then apply to Wales and Northern Ireland, but most significantly to England as well: English MPs alone would vote on matters concerning only England. And all UK MPs would vote at Westminster only on UK issues.
